LHS defeats Mullen; advances to play Silver Creek in Quarterfinals

In an amazing show of team play, the Lions controlled the game from the kickoff to the final whistle as they defeated Mullen with a decisive 3-1 victory in the 2nd round of the 2018 CHSAA 4A Girls’ Soccer State Tournament.  Coach Terry Banfield recently announced that he will retire from coaching the Lions at the end of the 2018 season.  Saturday night’s Sweet Sixteen playoff game was an excellent final home game for the LHS Girls’ Soccer Coach of 23 years.  The last time LHS Girls’ Soccer advanced to the Elite Eight was 1999, which was Coach Banfield’s fourth year of coaching the Lions and the same year that the oldest seniors on the current team were born.

Other 4A Jeffco teams advancing to the Quarterfinals were Standley Lake, Evergreen, and Valor.

The Lions will play in the Elite Eight/Round 3 of the State Tournament at #5 Silver Creek on Wednesday, May 12th at 5 pm.  Fantastic job to the coaches and team.  Go Lions!
